What’s not to like?

Yes a shoe-aholic knows that quantity is key – and when stores like Peacocks will throw in quality as part of the deal, we’re sold.

So go and vote in LK’s High Street Fashion Awards to show your favourite stores you appreciate their hard work. And while you’re at it why not tell us where you buy your shoes from? Is it Peacocks or Prada?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-21780928501395895862011-05-03T03:15:00.000-07:002011-05-03T03:22:04.227-07:00Obligatory Kate Middleton Shoe PostWell, there it was, last Friday for all the world to see - a million billion worldwide viewers pf the Royal Wedding and a potential result for the UK economy as people rush to buy union print mugs and plates, Duchy Originals biscuits, and Kate style gear. Make no mistake, Kate's now the media's #1 woman for style stories - I think before Kate it was Cheryl - seems like a different era now, that does.

In terms of the style thing it definitely seems as if there were people watching the wedding as much for the occasion of it as for the ladies shoes spotting to be done. Which, I suppose, is fair enough.

And already there' stuff out there about what Kate had on her feet the day after the wedding - comfortable wedge pumps, apparently.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-38177344561034735172011-04-15T03:30:00.000-07:002011-04-15T04:01:52.390-07:00Shoe blogs - the best of.Here's a list of some of the cooler shoe blogs we've been reading this week:

Shoe blog - does what it says on the tin. Some great posts of very cool footwear here. We like!

Shoeperwoman - one of those sites that draws you in with imaginative, very well written content, humour and most importantly - style. Ok so we can't afford half of what we see here, but that's half the fun. More power to your, err, elbow, Shoeperwoman.

Shoewawa - great regularly updated blog, and extra marks for its often hilarious "ugly shoes" section.

If you can point us in the direction of some more class shoe blogs - get in touch.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 99px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip3mdPBg9kYj2_pONiF-wpLCc52hWbhOn7z4h9qKy5gtm2CwS_5r5F5YYcW3yLzm7gsuq-cOz62Mze3A0uLKqM2V9pcmP4f1DJLSWkJ_lV1Fd5jRgCqIWlqFVmTKqa9nRYYpNoKr89xL7p/s320/1115855_blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595763811897734370" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-33714744332281125142011-03-31T02:47:00.000-07:002011-03-31T03:09:10.773-07:00Middleton Shoe FrenzyForgive us for a second while we here at Shoes Rule go into a Kate frenzy.

The Royal Wedding's not far off but for us it's more about Kate. And her sister Pippa too of course.

Pretty much anyone with an interest in UK fashion and footwear will be checking out the royal wedding (which I've just decided to refer to as RW 11).

So, with so much of a concentration of attention from a fashion hungry nation pouring through every media station, what's Kate gonna do on the big day? One word: impress.

Expect Kate's outfits for the foreseeable future to make a real mark on UK fashion and inspire people's entire looks. From the shoes to the fascinator, the UK has a new style icon.

But as I say, here at Shoes Rule we'll also be keeping an eye out for Pippa - who is also very cool.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 201px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaflZwl9BJHUyVdWwXdPNk-BfLGWVpn2L-MmmLNYMso-2-Bdf0ufzQJNF0y0jek5_lZJwshy1jY6QVqJbtp2NdwyGFmC2rsjUrCpsyeAfcVtxf9NgDkMJcASbpDTFC05QZCvolCpd3ld-X/s320/1229214_wedding_2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5590183572299641394" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-87680237048835638322011-03-24T09:51:00.000-07:002011-03-24T10:20:03.894-07:00Build the look (from the shoes up) The ModThe Mod look is about smartness more than anything else. That means that as time passes the look does change - it's not about looking like you've just stopped off the 1967 bus, although admittedly that's what we'd all like in a perfect world.

So today's mod would look very different from his or her 1960s predecessor, while they both share the same aesthetic heritage.

Desis - aka desert boots. Essential. Although certain other types of suede shoe can be worn on alternate days to keep your desis fresh.

Jeans - the cut will vary depending on the decade. But right now fairly tight is alright. Not too tight though or you might look more of a hipster than a mod.

Jacket - needs to be tailored right. On the neat side. Four buttons.

Parka - get one 9if you can afford it) from Pretty Green or Maharishi both of whom do a great bit of parka design. If not, try the second hand shops for an antique job.

But the shoes are pretty much the most important thing. You could have all the rest of the gear but put the wrong shoes on and your Mod-ness would be vapourised in a nanosecond.

The way to spot a mod. or even an ex mod, is by the shoes. If someone's got on a pair of desis or wallaby style shoes then they're almost certainly acquainted with Mod culture. Eveb the right type of DMs or miltary style zip boots. But scuffed brogues or wellies? Nah.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 199px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQI4CqPJa65BqZCJw_XOkKDDHd8jmWmZ09Gnzf6sRU33rnyMp7SQWA_kShq5eYYa2QI9rNEt2dbHhYq2ggTyPHIvr788USNqiOJH4mZ6bIRMfE-_Ak9ti33ZkaXR1GUg2PH-VRwayY9cut/s320/727828_italian_street_scene.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587696953929712834" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-37400057161136580012011-03-21T10:22:00.000-07:002011-03-21T10:30:45.435-07:00Cool bootsWhat with the warmish weather arriving any time now, it could be an idea to have a shoe drawer spring clean and see what's in the shops. There are a lot of opportunities in the calendar for clothes buying, so why not. Indie kids spend just as much time on their look as anyone else.

For a grunge aesthetic the best kind of shoes to go for are Converse, an indie perennial that never really changes. Then for the more skete punk aesthetic there's a whole range from Vans to Etnies etc.

One indie shoe that dates right back to the C86 era is the Dr Martens shoe (shoe as opposed to boot, obvs...) but they've disappeared which is just as well as they lloked more like part of a police uniform than an indie getup.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-86603819542387946262011-01-18T02:52:00.000-08:002011-01-18T02:59:15.551-08:00mens shoes - new stylesOne style of mens footwear that is big right now is the kind of military inspired lace up boot that in the past was only available from army surplus.

Complete the look for urban styles with skinny jeans and an overcoat, or if you can find one - a replica of the coat that Richard E Grant wears in Withnail & I. They still have soles, heels, buckles, laces. Industrial processes and the materials used, however have changed a lot, some beyond recognition. A modern pair of budget shoes can be produced at a fraction of the cost of a 19th century pair.

Most work shoes of today would at least be recognisable to someone from yesteryear, but a pair of velcro fasten trainers would look odd to say the least if you stepped out of a time machine and into, for instance, the late nineteenth century.

What will shoes look like in the future? Nanotechnology will probably ensure that sports shoes will no longer get a bit smelly after a few months' use. Advances in molecular technology might also mean that in not too far off, there could be a tolerable leather substitute - maybe even a biodegradable one.

But the big one we're all waiting for, of course, is the footwear that will have some kind of off-the ground air cushion so that we can walk twice as fast with half the effort, maybe even stand still but keep moving like on one of those walkways at the airport. These shoes will also have built in GPS so that we never get lost, and an optional tracking device so that we can see what ground we've covered.

Antique shoes link here.

Google images for future shoes here. This means that “a huge amount of duplicated effort has been eliminated”.

Peacocks’ lifecycle management systems ensure that their reaction to the often fast changing plethora of trends is fast. By spotting trends and gearing their product offering to suit what’s on trend, their fast fashion approach is massively successful.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-11078301001732418232010-10-12T03:25:00.000-07:002010-10-12T04:06:49.693-07:00Star Wars ShoesJust noticed that the mighty German sports clothing company Adidas (who else?) have made a brilliant range of Star wars-themed gear.

Sadly most of these garments and pairs of cosmic footwear will sadly end up in collectors' archive boxes, mint condition and untouched. We'd heard that another 'white winter' has been predicted for the UK, so this ain't gonna be no year for canvas baseball boots :( It's time to look for what's going to keep the toes warm for this winter...

The Dr. Martens range is looking pretty darn good this year. With some mad colorways and some really cool classic designs (like a classic 60s biker boot - available in women's and men's sizes) - these are good if you want to spend in the mid-to-high bracket.

These ladies boots from Peacocks are low in price but high on style:

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-14394976482347396392010-09-15T06:26:00.000-07:002010-09-15T06:37:22.585-07:00Cobblers!If you've ever thought you love shoes so much you'd like to be a shoemaker, then this video is for you. There seems to be a wider trend at the moment that has a kind of new romantic look to it. I want to talk about daft shoes. And ask ... what are the daftest shoes you ever owned? I'm not really talking about fads for daft stuff like trainers that light up at the back - I'm more talking about shoes or boots that seemed fashionable/ stylish at the time, but now make you chortle at the very idea of wearing them.

So, did you rock a a particularly egregious cuban heel? Did you sport a laughable cowboy boot? Or did you ever wear platforms so high that you got a touch of vertigo...?

Ok before y'all email me with your funny stories here's my fess-up. The red carpets, restaurants and exclusive gatherings are a catwalk for the evening look. It's a celebration of life, of style and of the evening itself, a magical time of dreams and hopefully a glass of champagne or two.

Evening dresses online and evening shoes may change their styles over time, but the common thread is understated glamour. Choosing well doesn't mean spending a lot of money - most catwalk superstar items have an equally eye-catching but affordable equivalent available to buy from retail stores that cater for your pocket as well as your look.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-65153475454305787842010-07-27T02:23:00.000-07:002010-07-27T02:44:06.272-07:00Fitting room - virtual spaceNow that buying clothes is much more common online, how has your balance of purchases changed from buying at bricks'n' mortar stores v online stores?

The one difference is of course that with online you can't try it on before you buy. You can of course try it on and return it for another size if it doesn't fit, but it's still a significant difference. Many moons ago and in a different internet era, there was of course boo.com and their pseudo 3d online display thingy. Not the future.

I've been lucky buying online so far - only once did I buy shoes not knowing they were a different width fitting from my usual, but they were fine. And despite my reservations when i found out about the width fitting, they don't look like boats.

All in all I'd say internet shoe retailing has been a massive success, and even if you don't end up clicking and buying at your laptop, internet window shopping means that you've got an entire world's shoe offerings to browse for inspiration.

Online clothes stores also do shoes as well as specialist retailers, and many a bargain can be found. And with Amazon now selling food, could the day arrive when we never leave the house?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-37847212249778766982010-07-21T07:43:00.001-07:002010-07-21T07:43:46.048-07:00testGN4JQQ3DJ3SEUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7935451603471284390.post-21390523400105790162010-07-06T09:02:00.000-07:002010-07-06T09:09:24.403-07:00Air Wair
Let's hear it for Docs.

I haven't actually worn a pair since I was about 12, but I think the time has returned for wearing this iconic Germany-originated classic.

Don't think there'll be many wearing these boots with tie-dyed Levi jeans and MA-1 bomber jackets this time round though. No need for a pic. These are the ones you wear day to day. The shoes you put on when you get home from the office, the shoes you walk the dog in. Category four is reserved for your CANVAS TRAINIES - you know the ones, your Converse or equivalent. Depending on your indie factor, number of extant pairs could be high.

& the fifth and final category, this one's for your running shoes, squash shoes, your actual bought-for-purpose training shoes. The Hi-Tec squash is the classic of this category.
