10 Famous Quotes On Shoes

Shoes are a powerful fashion item - this is evidenced by the thousands of famous people who have chimed in with their thoughts over the years.

These are ten of our favourite quotes on shoes:

  1. All those rappers, they're the only glamorous people working in music now. They dress up in these chains of gold, cars, girls and this and that, high-heeled shoes. Bryan Ferry
  2. Americans are crazy. They have this fascination with throwing their shoes on stage. I've been to a lot of shows in me life, some good and some bad. But I was never moved to take off me shoes and throw it at the lead singer. Noel Gallagher
  3. Any girl that's got a $500,000 table and $5 shoes, I'm in love with. James Brolin
  4. I still have my feet on the ground, I just wear better shoes. Oprah Winfrey
  5. I've always looked at shoes as being immensely beautiful things. Graham Coxon
  6. Age shouldn't affect you. It's just like the size of your shoes - they don't determine how you live your life! You're either marvellous or you're boring, regardless of your age. Morrissey
  7. Coming from a farming background, I saw nothing out of the ordinary in running barefoot, although it seemed to startle the rest of the athletics world. I have always enjoyed going barefoot and when I was growing up I seldom wore shoes, even when I went into town. Zola Budd
  8. You want to fall in love with a shoe, go ahead. A shoe can't love you back, but, on the other hand, a shoe can't hurt you too deeply either. And there are so many nice-looking shoes. Allan Sherman
  9. My shoes are special shoes for discerning feet. Manolo Blahnik
  10. I had these shoes made and 2 to 3 inch lifts inside and the heel was another 2 and half inches. I walked around that way, wherever I could without falling over. Bobby Darin

We are pretty wary of bringing this up, but in the end we thought that it was the right thing to do - Christmas is just under Five Weeks away. M&S - Gold old Marks and Sparks, their Christmas ad may be slightly annoying but they still come up with the goods - like these Leopard Skins

AllSaints - One of the best ranges available this year, AllSaints have a cutting-edge footwear option for your needs - including these great boots

Burberry - For those looking for something a little bit special, Burberry have some great footwear, we love these particularly

Reebok Pump Turns 20

If you were at High School in 1989, there was probably one kid in your class that was 'spoilt' i.e. they got all the cool stuff that your parents couldn't afford. In 1989, that kid was probably lucky enough to get his feet tucked into a revolutionary pair of trainers - the Reebok Pump.

The Pump (so-called as you pumped air into the upper using a cool basketball on the tongue) turns 20 this year and Reebok are not going to let it pass quietly. They have a website dedicated to the phenomenon and are releasing a range of limited edition pumps (in collaboration with some leading designers) to mark the occasion.

We were never massive fans of the basketball pump, much preffered the Court Victory tennis shoes, as advertised here by Michael Chang (apologies for the poor quality).

Anyway, happy birthday Pump!

Celebrating Converse Chucks

Converse Chuck Taylors are an incredible phenomenon, in my 30 odd years on Planet Earth i can't recall a time when they have dipped out of fashion, they have always been cool and remain so (even though my boss turned up in a pair this week!).

The Converse company was founded in 1908 (Converse rubber co.) and produced its first shoe in 1917, an all black (thick soled) sneaker called the All Star. It wasn't until the arrival of Arkon Firestones basketball player Charles "Chuck" H. Taylor that the shoe began to grow in popularity. Taylor joined Converse in 1921 and took it upon himself to promote the shoe throughout the game of basketball. You could say that 'Chuck' was rather successful as in 1923 they stuck his name on the shoe!

The Chuck Taylor All Stars are probably the biggest selling trainers (shoes?) of all time, i have seen the figure 500,000,000 to 750,000,00 pairs sold banded about the web, that seems difficult to get my head around!

Although now owned by Nike, Converse still retain an aura of coolness - we hope that they are still around in another 90 years time!

Do you own a pair of Chucks?
